Buhoma Village Walk

Introduction

The Buhoma Village Walk is a 3-hour guided tour that showcases the lives and culture of the people living near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the Buhoma Area. Launched in 2002 with support from the Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust (BMCT), this tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the local way of life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tour Highlights

– Crafts Center: Observe women creating handicrafts and baskets, and learn about their skills and traditions.

– Farmland and Waterfall: See women working in the fields, tending to their crops, and visit a picturesque waterfall amidst the farmland.

– Tea and Coffee Plantations: In season, witness the picking, processing, and production of tea and coffee. Even get to taste the local products!

– Munyaga River: Stop by the river and watch women washing clothes in the traditional way by hand. Take in the sights of hundreds of colorful butterflies.

– Banana Plantation: Visit a local brewing demonstration using bananas, including the distillation of a local gin made from banana juice.

– Traditional Healer: Meet a knowledgeable healer who uses forest resources to treat ailments. Be amazed by this informative demonstration!

– Local Schools: Visit the high school and primary school, meet the children and teachers, and marvel at their enthusiasm and spirit despite limited resources.

– Batwa Pygmy Community: Visit the original inhabitants of the forest, who lost their homes when the national park was created. Enjoy traditional dancing and learn about their culture.
